Dori Bernstein, an award-winning
producer, director and writer of film, theatre and television, will discuss
the topic Sneak a Peak at “Some Assembly Required” her
second documentary feature.

Topic: Sneak a Peak at “Some
Assembly Required”
Some
Assembly Required, Dori’s second documentary feature, produced
in partnership with NASA astronaut Dr. Sally Ride, follows six teams of
middle school kids competing for the national toy design crown. The film
is now in post production.
Show Business: The Road to Broadway, Dori’s first feature,
is now in theatrical release across the country. The film goes deep inside
the backstage world of Broadway chronicling the behind-the-scenes passion,
exhilara-tion, drama, sweat and high-stakes creative and financial risk of
Wicked, Avenue Q, Taboo and Caroline, or Change from inception through the
Tony Awards. The film was named one of the top 5 Documentary Films of 2006
and won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at the Florida Film Festival.
Dori is a three-time Tony-winning Broadway producer. Her include: Legally
Blonde: The Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie (Tony Award – Best Musical),
The Crucible, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (Tony Award – Best
Revival of a Play), Flower Drum, Golden Child. Additionally, Dori produced
Fool Moon starring Bill Irwin and David Shiner (Tony Award 1999 – Special
Theatrical Event) each of its three times on Broadway.
She has Executive-Produced and/or supervised over 40 features,
special f/x or animated productions including Isaac Mizrahi’s award-winning
documentary Unzipped, Dirty Dancing. and Jim Henson’s MuppetVision 3-D.
She has also served as a producer and/or executive for Paramount Pictures,
Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures, NBC, MTV, Sesame Workshop, Oxygen Media, Vestron
Pictures and Walt Disney Imagineering.
Dori is currently in production on her third documentary feature, chronicling
the New Jersey Nets Senior Citizen Hip-Hopping Dance Squad and is also working
on a Toy Design book for kids with Dr. Ride.
When not in production, Dori can be found playing obsessively
playing games with her kids. When coerced, she competes in Chess and Scrabble
competitions.
