Patti Becker

Patti Becker's background makes her uniquely qualified as a Marketing Consultant in new product development, strategic planning, and global licensing programs targeting children's developmental needs. Becker created marketing plans for Knickerbocker Toy Company, manufacturers of classic rag dolls and plush, such as Raggedy Ann®, Holly Hobbie® and Sesame Street® in the late 70s. Becker joined Amtoy, A Division of American Greetings Corporation, to develop licensed products for the gift market based on character properties including Strawberry Shortcake®, Care Bears® and Ziggy®. She was credited with a 137% one-year sales increase from new product introductions she launched at Sunbeam Corporation. Ultimately, at Anjar Company, she worked with her Dad, James R. Becker, creator of Othello®, Gumby® and Pokey®, Barrel of Monkeys®, the Disappearing Magic Baby Bottle® and hundreds of other products, developing and licensing Othello®, Grabbin' Dragons®, Shirt Pocket Games® and numerous other toys and games around the world. Becker received an MBA in marketing (Stern Business School, NYU '84), a BA in developmental child psychology and education (Tufts, '77), and has a formal background in art. Prior to founding Becker Associates LLC, Patti was Director of the Stamford, CT Interdistrict Summer School Program with 277 students and a staff of 37. Earlier in her career, she was the Assistant Director of The Children's Community, an innovative school program encompassing a 40% homeless population, where she solicited and received their first national grant. In addition to working directly with children as a reading specialist and math tutor, Becker has also taught marketing at SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology. Becker established the first Play Therapy Clinics at Massachusetts General and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospitals. Her Masters' Thesis, "The Marketing of Toys and Games in the 19th, 20th, and 21st Centuries," predicted the growth of global toy marketing and provided key research in the marketing of early games. For more than twenty years, Becker has been a Charter Member of the Antique Game Collectors Association (now AGPA), an active member of TAAP (Tufts Alumni Association Program), and a College Consultant. Becker Associates LLC is a member of LIMA (Licensing Industry Merchandisers Association) and consults on issues related to the Youth Market and Licensing Industry. Patti is a member of Standard and Poor's Vista Research, Society of Industry Leaders. She has authored several articles for Playthings Magazine and antique game journals, and was a Professional Speaker at ToyCon 2004 and the KidScreen Summit 2005. Becker is also on the Board of Directors of the Stamford Boys and Girls Club and President of Women in Toys.
