Background

This chapter has been active for almost 6 years, starting as an informal group of friends meeting to discuss trends in the toy industry. As the WIT organization grew, so did our numbers. The southern New England chapter encompasses greater Boston, Providence and Newport, RI. Some companies in the area include Hasbro, Summer Infant, First Years, Safety First, Polaroid and Quincrafts. Many of our members have their own businesses offering services in design, invention, sculpting, art production and modelmaking.

Format of Meetings

The events are fantastic networking opportunities and often include speakers or panel discussions. Weekday dinners are the usual forums. The location varies and attendees pay for the cost of the meal and the speaker. Highlights of past events are:

Summer Studio Showcase
Blue Sky hosted an open studio where participants were able to display their products and services.

New England Clambake
Sculptor Andrea Hollis hosted a traditional clambake at her Newport studio and home. Paul Weingard from Hasbro gave an informative talk on digital cameras.

Annual Holiday Dinner
Meet for a social dinner, drinks and the infamous yankee swap of Christmas ornaments.
