About the Role
As the Director of our Packaging Design, you will be responsible for the development, execution and production of brand packaging concepts for Jazwares. You will oversee a team of designers, production artists, work in collaboration with the Brand Team and identify trends and inspiration for each product and conceptualize appropriate design solutions, strategies, and systems that reflect and develop the brand look as well as maintaining and evolving core packaging.
What you will do:
Manage internal and external resources developing packaging design and guides the process of concept and design development from an aesthetic and structural point of view.
Mentor design managers, designers and / or production artists.
Lead packaging innovation efforts - new materials, new cost savings ideas.
Understand timelines and ensure the packaging team is working within the development calendar to meet deadlines for on time packaging release.
Assign the deadline to the packaging managers in Smartsheets.
Research & maintain new packaging trends and inspire teams to be on top of current packaging both in toy and other industries.
Responsible for ensuring all projects are seen through to completion. Keeping all collections up to date with branding guides, ensuring that all branding ties back to guidelines.
Observe and evaluate staff job performance and recommend training for staff.
Provide assistance and guidance to the brand team on alternative structures and recommendations.
Responsible for review, assessment and continuous improvement of the packaging team.
Responsible for checking all international packaging variations with packaging team.
Introduce tools, systems or methodologies that help the team work more effectively and efficiently.
Responsible to plan, organize and overseas the mock-up packaging development for all Sales and Trade-show events making sure is on time for the events.
Partner closely with brand, product development, visual merchandising, marketing, social, and creative teams to support key messaging / design objectives for all projects.
Ensure review process for packaging across all teams is implemented.
Work Closely with the Asia Design and Product Development team on projects assigned to Asia.
What we are looking for:
BA or BS degree in Graphic Design or related field.
8+ years experience in toy packaging design, working with style guides.
6+ years experience managing teams (local & remote).
Strong knowledge of working with licensed brands.
Proficiency with Illustrator and Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite.
Clear understanding of consumer packaging design and print expectations, including, bleeds, die lines, retouching, formats, resolution, etc.
Strong oral and written presentation and communication.
Strong conceptual, organizational, prioritization, management, and analytical skills.
High level of initiative, able to work independently on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Trade show design experience is a plus.
Action & Collectibles experience a must
