Washington DC

Inventor, Author, Founder & CEO

WANDA

Using creativity as her secret sauce, Tambra combines her passion and experience in media and food as the visionary founder of WANDA: Women Advancing Nutrition Dietetics and Agriculture. Reimagineering a new narrative in the food system, the Tufts-trained health communicator created the WANDA bilingual book series to inspire a new generation of healthy eaters, readers, and leaders. Named 2016 Champion for children’s wellbeing by ASHOKA and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Tambra has worked with artists, animators, and producers to create engaging award-winning children’s health content. Prior to WANDA, she began her career at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Commerce, and the D.C. Mayor’s Office on Women’s Policy and Initiatives. The Oklahoma native is pursuing her Ph.D. at American University School of Communication while publishing and researching in the Playful City Lab. She serves on the Journal of Games for Health Early Career Committee. Featured by Forbes, Washington Post, and Voice of America, she spearheaded public talks on African children’s education-entertainment and games for development at the World Bank, U.S. Library of Congress, and African Nutrition Society. As a fun fact, she was a 2014 National Geographic Traveler of the Year featured in National Geographic Magazine and appointed to the D.C. Food Policy Council by Mayor Bowser.
