More About Me

Tell us about your career journey and how you ended up here.

I began my career in quality assurance and food safety, where I spent more than 15 years working in the food and beverage industry. Throughout my career, I held leadership roles focused on quality systems, regulatory compliance, audits, continuous improvement, and team development. Those experiences taught me the importance of discipline, problem-solving, attention to detail, and perseverance—skills that later became invaluable as an entrepreneur.

My journey into the toy and children's products industry began at home as a mother of two children, Laura and Alex. While watching them play, I noticed how much they loved tents, lights, and decorating for the holidays. One Christmas, I imagined a place where children could actually go inside the Christmas tree to play, read stories, sleep, and create magical memories with their families. That simple idea became the inspiration for the Magical Underland Christmas Tree Tent.

What started as a family idea quickly turned into a multi-year product development journey involving design, prototyping, patents, trademarks, manufacturing, testing, and crowdfunding. Along the way, I learned an entirely new industry and built relationships with manufacturers, retailers, inventors, and licensing professionals. I successfully launched a Kickstarter campaign, exhibited at the Chicago Toy & Game Fair with early prototypes, and continued developing new products and experiences for children and families.

Today, I am the Founder and CEO of The Magical Underland, where I combine my technical background, creativity, and passion for innovation to bring imaginative products to life. My journey has taught me that some of the best ideas come from everyday family moments and that it is never too late to pursue a dream and learn something completely new.

Describe yourself in 5-7 words.

Accidentally invented a Christmas tree.

Tell us about a time when you thrived at work, and what you learned about yourself from that experience.

I thrived when I took an idea from my living room to the toy industry. I had never invented a product before, but somehow ended up with patents, prototypes, and a Kickstarter campaign. I learned that being uncomfortable usually means you're growing—and that big dreams start with small steps.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Getting paid to turn crazy ideas into real products—and calling it work!

How about when you "turn off" and go home? Any hobbies or fun activities you are involved in?

Most of my free time is spent with my husband and our two children, Laura and Alex. We love family adventures, holiday decorating, traveling, and testing my latest “crazy ideas” before they become real products!

Any must-read, must-watch or must-follow recomendations?

I'm inspired by stories of people who turn ideas into reality. I enjoy following inventors, entrepreneurs, and creators who aren't afraid to start before they have everything figured out. One lesson I've learned is that sometimes the best education comes from simply taking the first step and learning along the way.

Anything else you want to share with the WiT Community?

Never underestimate the power of a simple idea. My journey into the toy industry started with a moment at home with my children and a question: "What if kids could go inside a Christmas tree?" That question led me to patents, prototypes, trade shows, Kickstarter, and an amazing community of creators. If you have an idea you're passionate about, don't wait for it to be perfect—start, learn, and keep going. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help. Some of the best opportunities in my journey came from conversations and connections with other people.
